Buy the Best won her third straight race with a 3 ¾-length victory in the $100,000 Smart Halo S. Saturday at Laurel Park.
The 2-year-old daughter of Tapiture had collected a maiden and allowance win prior to her first stakes start on Saturday. When a speed duel developed in front of her, Buy the Best sat about a half-dozen lengths off the blazing first quarter-mile in :21.87. Things began to tighten up quickly on the turn, with Buy the Best only a half-length from the lead at the top of the stretch.
She rolled right by the pacesetters with a three-wide move, then poured it on in the stretch to finish up the six furlongs in a swift 1:09.99 on a “good” main track.
“She was beautiful (in her two wins) at Delaware and we just hoped for more of the same today,” owner Hope Jones’ niece, Ellie Glaccum, said. “I was a little concerned earlier when I was driving down here and it was raining because she hasn’t run in the wet yet. What can I say? We’re very blessed.”
Buy the Best is now 3-1-0 in five starts and has earned $117,480. Bred by Susan Molton, Buy the Best is out of the stakes winner and graded stakes-placed Indian Charlie mare Sister Dawn.
Buy the Best is Tapiture’s fifth stakes winner and 13th overall stakes horse in 2021. He is the only Third-Crop sire with at least 100 winners, with 122 to date.
